This exhibit in the Archives and Special Collections Teaching Room features the work of well-known 19th and 20th century book illustrators including Arthur Rackham, Rockwell Kent and Gustave Doré.
Book illustrations draw the attention of the reader and enhance our understanding of written materials. Each illustrator understands a particular text uniquely and draws on their own experiences and artistic style to tease details from the texts that others might have ignored or missed, providing the reader with an original perspective on the story.
The materials in the exhibit are drawn from literary volumes held in the Mansfield Library’s Archives and Special Collections. This exhibit will be up until the end of 2019.
