Freshman Wilderness Experience @ Outdoor Program | Missoula | Montana | United States

One of the best parts about living in Montana is the accessible, amazing and diverse wild places to explore. Incoming freshmen are invited to embark on an outdoor adventure through the Freshman Wilderness Experience to kick off their college careers and enjoy some beautiful local backcountry.

Sponsored by Campus Recreation’s Outdoor Program and UM’s Wilderness Institute, FWE affords students the opportunity to spend an unforgettable four days and three nights in the wilderness. Set out on a trip backpacking or canoeing down the Missouri River.

Not only will students connect with nature during FWE, but they’ll also forge connections with other freshmen at UM and upperclassmen leaders. Though participants will arrive as strangers, after four days they will find themselves with a new community of friends on campus. Plus, there are opportunities to develop leadership skills and learn or advance prior knowledge of wilderness skills and Leave No Trace principles – all before the first day of fall semester!

Registration instructions are on the Freshman Wilderness Experience website.
