2019 Time-Correlated Single-Photon Counting (TCSPC) Fluorescence Workshop @ Skaggs Building Room 169

The University of Montana BioSpectroscopy Core Research Laboratory, in association with PicoQuant, Zeiss and the UM’s Center for Biomolecular Structure and Dynamics (CBSD), is presenting the 2019 UM Time-Correlated Single-Photon Counting (TCSPC) Fluorescence Workshop on July 30th and 31st. This two-day workshop will feature lectures and workshop demonstrations from both academic and industrial professionals. This workshop is intended for individuals seeking a better understanding of fluorescence microscopy and spectroscopy and a crash course for those trying to implement fluorescence techniques in the lab. Lectures and workshops will be approachable for many scientific disciplines with varying backgrounds.

The workshop will cover the following topics:

  • Fluorescence basics, including discussions on microscopes, lasers and fluorophores
  • Fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS)
  • Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging (FLIM)
  • Total internal reflection fluorescence (TIRF)
  • Fluorescence anisotropy.

The workshop will take place on the University of Montana campus and is free to participants, but registration is required. Attendees will be responsible for their own travel and lodging. Registration will be capped at the first 40 registrants. Register today!

Aug 9 @ 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Flathead Lake Biological Station Open House @ Flathead Lake Biological Station

The Flathead Lake Biological Station’s (FLBS) annual Open House provides an opportunity for the public to learn more about the ecology of Flathead Lake and its watershed, as well as FLBS and its research from around the globe. The Open House allows FLBS scientists to showcase their everyday activities, as well as show examples of how our ecological research benefits Flathead Lake and subsequently area visitors and residents.

Activities this year will include:

  • Tours of Biological Station facilities
  • Boat trips on our 30-foot research vessel, the Jessie B
  • Exhibits on recent Flathead research, including Flathead Lake ecology
  • Presentations by FLBS research scientists and invited speakers
  • Submarines!

CoBRE Research Symposium @ University Center

The eighth annual Center for Biomolecular Structure and Dynamics CoBRE Research Symposium provides us with the unique opportunity to come together as a research community to discuss the latest research in our laboratories supported by CBSD. The symposium includes keynote seminars by outside speakers, lectures by project leaders who are supported by the CBSD National Institutes of Health CoBRE grant and a selection of short talks by pilot project leaders and graduate students. Graduate and undergraduate students are encouraged to participate in a poster session. Attendees will learn about computational, NMR, structural biology and BioSpectroscopy Core Facilities during presentations.

Registration opens in June. Contact Sara Jestrab with questions or to be added to the email communication.
